The cards I observed differed for each age group. Cards for 20-30 year olds were generally more fun cards, they had to deal with friends, partying, and celebrating life and their age. Cards for ages 31-40 were more family cards; they were sweet, a lot of them were for parents, by then a lot of adults have children and are beginning to settle down. For ages 41-50 their cards became more humorous, because that is the age when adults start going through midlife crisis they joked about their age and exaggerated things. Also this age group had a lot of cards for parents. For ages 51-60 there were still a lot of humorous, exaggerated cards, they also had more sweet cards from children and grandchildren. For ages 60+ they were similar, although they did have a lot of humorous one, they started getting more laid back. There were a lot for grandparents and parents. They were also focused a lot on hobbies, because this is when adults start retiring. They also had a lot for friendships over time.
The cards for younger people tend to be more fun, a lot of the time the younger a person is the more they enjoy celebrating their birthdays. Once adults get to be around 30 they start to build families and settle down, their cards aren’t as fun, they’re more laid back because they’ve become more mature. Once adults get into their 40’s and up they start getting gray hair, wrinkles, and see their children graduate, and they become grandparents. At this age birthdays are dreaded more, and in order to cheer them up they get humorous cards. Humorous cards make them laugh, and try to distract them from the fact they’re aging.
I think aging is viewed differently among people. Some people may find aging negative. They know the older they get the closer to death the are. At the same time, some people may find aging as a positive thing. They are able to have children and grandchildren, and share their knowledge with them.
